Santa Clara Unified School District is proud to celebrate and honor the contributions of individuals who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and others (LGBTQQIA+). Pride Month is held each June, to honor the 1969 uprising of LGBTQQIA+ individuals who protested against the police at the Stonewall Inn in New York City.
This incident was an important milestone in the LGBTQQIA+ movement against discriminatory laws and practices. Now, in light of recent events taking place around the country, SCUSD believes it is more important than ever before that we create a community where our LGBTQQIA+ students, families, and staff feel safe, supported, and affirmed.
On May 26, 2022, the Santa Clara Unified School District Board of Education passed the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transgender, and queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual+, better known as LGBTQQIA+, Pride Month Resolution. SCUSD has committed to the following:
Ongoing professional learning for all SCUSD certificated and classified staff on gender identity and expression
Supportive services tailored for LGBTQQIA+ students and families, available at our LGBTQQIA+ webpage
