Family Nights: Success in Mathematics

Dear secondary school families,

Join us for our upcoming family night to learn how to promote your child’s success in mathematics. Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is partnering with the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative to work with teachers and parents in learning about the California Framework for Mathematics, what mathematics pathways result in college and career success, and the best way to support your child’s high school mathematics learning pathway.

If you attended our first session, there is still much more to learn — if you missed it, you can watch it online. In our December 7 session, we will be going into more depth about the details of the new California Framework for Mathematics. We will explore the shifts in classroom instruction that are called for in the Framework and then view a secondary math lesson based upon recent educational research. We will provide guides to view these innovative lessons and share findings from neighboring districts that are employing these strategies.

SCUSD’s goal is to create a culture in which all students have access to classes that will prepare them for college and career success. In preparing to address the new framework and changes in college and university mathematics pathways for student admissions, we are hosting virtual family nights throughout this school year.

When and Where

The virtual sessions will be on the following dates from 6:30-7:30 p.m. You can also watch a recording of the October 12 session.
