On October 29, Rotary Club of Santa Clara and Santa Clara Schools Foundation partnered with Santa Clara Unified to give away around 220 pairs of shoes to students and their siblings from throughout our district.
The annual Steps 4 Success drive-thru event is dedicated to providing school-aged children and their siblings with properly fitted athletic shoes. The event took place in the Halloween-themed parking lot at Wilson High School. As families drove through, they were handed their new shoes and passed goody bags filled with Halloween treats.
Volunteers from Rotary Club of Santa Clara, Santa Clara Schools Foundation, Santa Clara Unified’s Family Resource Center staff, and Interact Clubs from Santa Clara and Wilcox High Schools turned out dressed to impress in their Halloween costumes.
Rotarian Vera Miller started the Steps 4 Success program over 20 years ago, and while some aspects of the event have changed, including the name, the goal has remained the same — to serve the needs of the community. Throughout the year, the Rotary Club of Santa Clara runs multiple fundraisers to raise money for the event, and this year the Santa Clara Schools Foundation joined as a partner funding half of the program.
Massive thanks to Rotary Club of Santa Clara for continually supporting our students; to the Santa Clara Schools Foundation; to our Family Resource Center staff for their hard work reaching out to our families; and of course, to our event partner, Sports Basement, for supplying discounted Under Armour brand athletic shoes for our students.
