Every Day Counts When it Comes to School Attendance

October 2021

These times are filled with uncertainty and confusion, and COVID-19 has made it extremely challenging for many families to regularly send their children to school. We want to assure you that we are walking alongside you during these difficult times and recognize your efforts to ensure your students attend school regularly.

Rest assured that our schools are following all of the necessary health and safety guidelines and recommendations to protect the health of everyone on our campus. School is where academic and social-emotional learning happens, and we are committed to providing all of our students and staff with a safe and healthy learning environment.

Did You Know?

Good attendance is essential to academic success. Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks. Attending school regularly can help students feel good about school and themselves. Every student is part of our team!

“Research shows that attendance is an important factor in student achievement,” National Center for Education Statistics.

Why is School Attendance Important?

  • Attendance is important because its a habit that will benefit your student and ensure that they are making the most of their education
  • It's difficult for your child to build upon their skills if they aren’t in the classroom; they miss out on class content, social skills, and being a part of the school community
  • Students who attend school regularly feel more connected to their community
  • Missing just two days of school a month can drastically affect a student’s academic success, but you can help change that!

What Can You Do?

  • Make attendance a priority by monitoring your child’s attendance — print out your child’s schedule and post it on the fridge or their desk
  • Establish a routine — this can include morning routine, homework, and bedtime
  • Avoid any extended family trips or non-urgent medical appointments when school is in session
  • Contact your child’s teacher if your child is absent
  • Become familiar with the attendance policy

Questions?

Knowing when to keep your child home can be confusing, but the front office staff are here to help you determine if your student should stay home. They can also answer any additional questions you may have.

We’re so excited to see your student back in class! We recognize and value all of your efforts as you assist your child in their learning during these unprecedented times. Be healthy and safe and remember every day counts!

Big thanks to our social work intern team for all of their hard work to produce the videos for this project.
