Math Placments for Incoming 6th Graders

Dear Parents/Guardians of current 5th Grade Students,

Administrators and counselors at our middle schools will begin working on math placements for incoming 6th graders this May. Most 5th graders will be appropriately placed in Common Core (CC) Math 6, a rigorous and challenging math class that builds upon concepts and skills learned in 5th grade. It is strongly recommended that all 6th graders take CC Math 6 as outlined in the California State Math Framework, however, the option to pass over CC Math 6 by testing to CC Math 7 is available.

The Grade 7 Mathematics Readiness Test will be administered in-person at your child's elementary school on Wednesday, April 28.  The results of the test will help determine readiness for advanced placement in CC Math 7. If you indicate “yes” on the form linked below, you will receive notification from your site regarding the exact time your child will be given the 45-minute 7th grade math readiness assessment. If you indicate “no”, your child will not be given the test.

Placement letters for 6th grade math courses will be mailed prior to the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Please complete this online form by Friday, April 9.

If you have any questions please contact your school principal.

Thank you,

Tricia Ringel
Director, Elementary Education
