Santa Visits Alviso from a Distance

December 2020

Big thanks to our community partners at the Santa Visits Alviso Foundation for still hosting this year’s Santa Visits Alviso event to help support our families in need.

This year’s drive-through event kept everyone safe while still allowing staff and volunteers — including Santa and Mrs. Claus — the opportunity to see our students and families from a distance.

Founded by Judy Santiago, her late husband Joe Santiago, and Board Chairman Richard Santos, the Santa Visits Alviso Foundation has been making Christmas brighter for students, families, and community members living in the Alviso area for over 35 years.

The first year that Santa visited Alviso, the community had been under several feet of water following severe storms. Joe and Judy Santiago, dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, brought smiles and festive cheer to the community as they handed out candy canes to the children of Alviso. The program has continued to grow from there. Each year, the foundation raises funds to support not only this holiday program — which includes singing, lunch, a book giveaway, and photos with Santa for over 600 children and their families — but also a multitude of other valuable programs.
