Survey to Assess Readiness to Return Elementary Students to Campuses

En Español

October 6, 2020

Over the summer, the Board of Trustees approved a phased reopening plan with the objective of moving to Phase Two as safely and as soon as possible after the following dates:

  • November 6 for elementary schools (trimester end)
  • December 18 for middle and high schools (semester end)

The second phase includes a return to school campuses for elementary school students in a hybrid learning* model that strictly follows Santa Clara County Public Health Department guidelines and a board-approved SCUSD COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan. Families who want to keep their children at home will have a distance learning option.

With the November 6 date approaching, and the county now in the red tier and potentially moving into the orange tier of California’s Blueprint for Reopening as early as October 13, the district needs to assess the readiness of the community to send elementary school students back to school campuses for in-person learning. The sole objective of this survey is to determine the willingness of the community to have elementary students return to school campuses and follow the safety protocols in place by the county health officials and our school board. The survey closes on Tuesday, October 13.

*Note: The hybrid learning schedules are under development and, in part, rely upon your answers to this survey before they can be finalized, shared out for feedback, and negotiated with our labor associations. Refer to our board approved Reopening Plan for sample hybrid learning schedules for an overall idea of a hybrid schedule.

The Board of Trustees will be discussing the safety plan and second phase of our Reopening Plan at their next regular meeting on October 8. All members of our community are welcomed and encouraged to attend the virtual (online) meeting: SCUSD Board of Trustees Meetings.
