Congratulations to our 2020 AAA School Safety Patrol Award winners — students Jackson Webb from Bowers Elementary School, Gina Yum and Mykala Irvin from Briarwood Elementary School, and Kiana Everett, William Walker, Mia Gonzales, and Mateo McKinley from Haman Elementary. The Patroller of the Year awards are presented to only a select group of outstanding students each year in recognition of their dedication to safety and leadership.
In addition, Haman 5th grade teacher, Courtney Carscadden, was awarded the AAA Patrol Advisor of the Year Award in recognition of her dedication to safety and leadership.
“For me, being in Safety Patrol isn’t just a job,” said Yum. “It is being a leader to others and being safe. I feel so lucky to have the chance of being in Safety Patrol and being a leader by having responsibility, supporting others, and having cautiousness. I will never forget the memory of being in Safety Patrol and will keep on being a leader.”
Unfortunately, due to the current shelter in place mandates, the winners will not be attending an award ceremony to receive their plaques, but the plaques will still be mailed out, along with a $1,000 grant for the school.
“Becoming a Safety Patroller and playing a role in decreasing traffic deaths and injuries among my fellow Pandas traveling to and from school has been one of the best experiences of my life,” said Irvin.
Congratulations and thank you for helping to keep our students and families safe on campus.
