We are proud to share that at the San Andreas Regional Center’s 21st Annual Service Above Self Awards luncheon, two Santa Clara Unified teachers were honored for their achievements. Congratulations to post secondary teacher Magaly Ramos-Cartagena who was recognized as Special Education Teacher of the Year and Braly Elementary School’s special education teacher Elizabeth Knirck who was recognized for her outstanding community service and support.
The Service Above Self Awards is an opportunity for the San Andreas Regional Center to honor nominated individuals and organizations who go above and beyond in serving the developmental disability community.
“Today is a very very happy day,” said Ramos-Cartagena. I have to thank the people that nominated me. The reason I stand here is because of the teacher assistants and parents who can implement my ideas and my plans. We are a team. Special education is a wonderful profession.”
“This award is such an honor and I first want to thank the parent in my classroom that nominated me,” said Knirck. “She is one of my biggest supporters in my classroom and along with her husband she is my inspiration for coming to work every day. I also want to thank my family for their work behind the scenes and my on campus general education partner Carolyn Simpson.”
Congratulations to both of you, you are shining examples of what it means to be SCUSD!
