In conjunction with the City of Santa Clara’s Safe Routes to School program, volunteers gave out 163 new helmets to Hughes Elementary School students in December. The free helmets were distributed and diligently fitted by trained volunteers to make sure that the helmets were right for each child.
“Thank you all for your incredible support for the safety of our school community,” said principal Joe Young. “Today’s helmet fitting was an incredible success with the support of so many - the volunteers and the school staff.”
Students were also invited back the following week during the Hughes Walk and Roll to school Day to decorate their helmets.
“Many, many thanks to our amazing volunteers, the Hughes clean up crew, and to the City of Santa Clara and Safe Kids for providing the helmets,” said Birgit Werner with the Safe Moves team.
