Partnership Raises Over $35,000 in Classroom Grants

December 2019

This year, for the first time, the Santa Clara Schools Foundation (SCSF) partnered with DonorsChoose for a GivingTuesday campaign. In a single day, the partnership funded $35,836.75 in classroom grants for 50 SCUSD teachers with unfunded “wishlist” projects. These donations will serve an estimated 1,500 students this year!

The new partnership allowed SCSF's investment to be amplified by dozens of small donors, and then in turn matched by the DonorsChoose one-to-one matching campaign on GivingTuesday. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that began in 2012 to encourage people to do good in their communities and the world — looks to us like it’s working!

The majority of funding for SCSF comes from the Santa Clara Firefighters Foundation's annual Firehouse Run. To date, this fun community race has raised $75,000 to support our schools, not including the money raised at this year’s run.

Using the funds from this year’s Firehouse Run, SCSF plans to partner again with DonorsChoose, this time, for a back to school campaign at the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Stay tuned for an update on this opportunity in May.
