Message from the Superintendent

October 2019

This last month has been a busy one! I’ve hosted and attended community meetings and events throughout the district and spent time with students, families, and staff. It’s been a pleasure to meet you all at school and out in your neighborhoods.

You may have noticed that I spend Monday mornings bright and early in our school bus yard at 6:30 a.m. I join our students and bus drivers as they make their way to school, visiting different schools each week. My goal is to ride every bus route and visit every school.

Join the fun! Here are a few links to videos from recent bus rides:

I meet with student leaders from our middle and high schools quarterly. Our first meeting was on September 24. It was uplifting to hear all the community-building and servant-leadership happening across our district by our students. The students and I will be working on a joint resolution about climate change as our first order of business. I look forward to meeting with them again before the holidays.

Many of our students participated in the Santa Clara Parade of Champions on Saturday, September 28. It was a first-time experience for me, participating in a parade and greeting all our students, families, and staff along the parade route. I even got to wave at a whole new generation of babies and toddlers who will soon become part of our SCUSD family! Our district hosted several community booths where the community could participate in my community feedback survey or learn about our STEAM Expo, adult education courses, infant and preschool programs, extended day programs, and services through our Family Resource Center.

My calendar is filling up with many new opportunities for me to connect with you and our students this next month and I look forward to telling you about them in next month’s publications. If you haven’t already, please share your feedback about our district with me through my survey.
