Teacher Louisa Capp Named Social Studies Teacher of the Year

We are proud to announce that Buchser Middle School teacher Louisa Capp was named Middle Level Social Studies Teacher of the Year by California Council for the Social Studies (CCSS).

Capp and the other award winners will be honored during the CCSS Awards Ceremony at the 58th Annual Conference on March 15. She will participate in a celebratory reception and then the awardees will be called to the stage to receive a commemorative plaque, complimentary conference registration and photos with family and friends. Capp will also be recognized by the SCUSD Board of Trustees at the March 28 board meeting.

"Louisa Capp is an outstanding educator, with exceptional curiosity about how best to help her students learn," said Buchser Principal Monica Stoffal. "Ms. Capp goes out of her way to build students' understanding of history, especially how the events in history connect to their own lives."

The CCSS Awards Recognition Program highlights dedicated professionals who go above and beyond in the field of history-social science education. The purpose of the CCSS Outstanding Middle Level Social Studies Teacher of the Year is to recognize a CCSS member whose classroom teachings in grades 5-8 and whose professional practices reflect the goals and purposes of an exemplary social studies education.

Congratulations, Louisa! SCUSD is proud of your accomplishment.
