Bob Buchser Honored for Community Service

On November 3, Mission City Community Fund (MCCF) honored Robert (Bob) E. Buchser with the 2018 Austen Warburton Community Service Award at the MCCF Charity Auction Dinner Dance at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Bob has a long, distinguished career with SCUSD and continues to be deeply involved as a volunteer, not just at the District, but also on a community level.

“Mr. Buchser has been the perfect example of what service to community looks like, and he has been providing that sample to our community for decades,” said Superintendent Rose. “This honor is only fitting and appropriate.”

Buchser started out at Santa Clara Unified as a math teacher in 1958, he went on to become dean of students and then principal at Peterson High School and from there became VP at Wilcox High School, principal at Valley High School and then in 1996 he retired from his position as assistant director of Educational Options. But his role is our District didn’t end there — he returned to take on various other roles at our schools and at the District Office. Even in retirement he remains passionately engaged in our schools and with the community.

“He is a very special person and an inspiration to all of us here at MCCF,” said Starr Contreras of MCCF.

Congratulations on your much-deserved award, Bob. Your dedication is unrivaled and we appreciate everything you do to better the lives of our students.
