Wilcox High School Student Recognized for Medical Research

In September, Wilcox High School freshman Ahmad Ismail was selected by the Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science & the Public as one of only 30 middle school students nationwide to compete in the 2018 Broadcom MASTERS.

Ismail’s potentially life-saving research to find a treatment for invasive candidiasis (a serious fungal infection) earned him his place in the competition. Along with $500, he also received an all expenses paid trip for him and a chaperone to Washington DC in October to compete for up to 100,000 in prizes.

Ismail’s work began when he studied at Granada Islamic School in Santa Clara and continues as he studies at Wilcox High School. We can’t wait to see what comes next.

The Board of Trustees will recognize Ismail for his impressive achievements at a January board meeting. To learn more about Ismail and his research, visit The Silicon Valley Voice website.
