Earthquake Preparedness: Great California ShakeOut
International ShakeOut Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of October — this year it’s October 21. The Great California ShakeOut drill is an opportunity for faculty, teachers, students, and parents to practice simple, but critical, safety steps that can keep them safe during an earthquake.
This year, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is urging Californians to participate in the Great California ShakeOut and to download the free MyShake App on their mobile device to receive earthquake warnings. The MyShake App is available for FREE from the Apple App and Google Play stores.
Cal OES encourages everyone to make a plan to Drop, Cover, and Hold on October 21. Over 4.5 million Californians are already registered to practice their earthquake safety plans. You can register to participate in the Great California ShakeOut Drill at https://www.shakeout.org/.
