After a series of public hearings and community meetings, at the December 9, 2021 Board meeting, the Governing Board of the Santa Clara Unified School District adopted Trustee Area Map Scenario 2A (see below) as part of the District’s transition to a by-trustee area election system to ensure compliance with the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA).
The district will now petition the Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization to approve of the District’s election transition and adopted map plan. If approved, the map will be utilized for the next five Governing Board elections (2022, 2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030) until the release of the 2030 Census in 2031.
Importantly, this transition and the adopted map do not impact where any child attends school now or in the future. Rather, this map determines where candidates for school board must reside for upcoming elections, when each trustee area is open for election, and how candidates are elected by the District’s voters.
