Open Enrollment

For the 2026-2027 school year, the Open Enrollment application period will open on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 through Friday, February 6, 2026.

The Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) Board of Trustees has a policy of limited Open Enrollment (OE), as outlined in BP 5116.12 and AR 5116.12. This policy allows families who live within the District's boundaries to request that their child be enrolled in any SCUSD school.

If you would like your child to attend their neighborhood school, you do not need to complete an OE application.

The OE application process is managed through a randomized lottery system. This ensures fairness and transparency when the number of requests for enrollment at a particular school exceeds the available capacity. All requests submitted during the Open Enrollment (OE) Application Window are entered into a random lottery. This lottery assigns a sequential position, known as the waitlist number, to each applicant. The waitlist number determines the order in which a student will be considered for a seat if one becomes available.

Enrollment offers are made following the order of the lottery-generated waitlist. A waitlist number does not guarantee enrollment at your school of choice; instead, it establishes priority for placement as seats become available.

Families who miss the initial Open Enrollment Application Window may still submit an OE application during the Late Open Enrollment period. These late applications will be placed at the bottom of the waitlist, in the order they are received.

Please direct any enrollment questions to the Enrollment Center at enrollment@scusd.net or (408) 423-3596.
