The Santa Clara Unified Independent Study program is a district alternative to in-person school for families who are choosing not to return their children to in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. This program is for families who desire a non-traditional, at-home, educational experience for their child. Please note that we are not holding open enrollment seats; If you enroll in the independent study program and wish to return to in-person learning, you will return to your homeschools if space is available.
SCUSD currently offers a high school independent study program at Wilson High School. When selecting to enroll in the Santa Clara Unified Independent Study program, high school aged students will be enrolled at Wilson High School in the current program. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade will enroll in the K-8 Independent Study program, which will be a program within and housed at Wilson.
Independent study programs are an opportunity for students who:
- Are academically independent, needing little to no instructional support
- Are motivated and have strong time management skills
- Are comfortable with less daily social interaction
- Recognize that they will not have the same access to in-school activities and courses such as athletics, clubs, and certain electives
