Strategic Plan (2026-2030)

Listening and Learning Sessions

Invitation from the Superintendent

Dear Santa Clara Unified School District Community,

During my first 100 days as superintendent, I held a series of listening and learning sessions, during which a clear theme emerged: our students, families, staff, and community all desire a single "North Star" to ensure we are moving in the same direction. My goal is to transition our district from a place where we may feel like we are all working hard yet "spinning" in different directions to a place where our organization is aligned and we’re all moving with intention in the same direction. Our students deserve our full attention, and that requires us to be strategic about where we focus our energy.

I am pleased to invite you to a Strategic Plan listening and learning session to review our draft plan based on your input in the fall and hear your feedback on our current thinking. This document is not a new set of tasks. It is a guiding roadmap designed to align the vital work we are already doing so we can move with purpose and shared momentum toward our North Star: Student Learning.

The draft Strategic Plan reflects thousands of points of input from the superintendent search last spring to my initial 100 days, and the dedicated work of our district committees. To ensure we have it right before finalizing the plan in May, we need your perspective on our four Strategic Pillars:

Pillar 1: Academic Excellence and Instructional Coherence
Pillar 2: Safe and Inclusive Environment
Pillar 3: Organizational Alignment and Fiscal Stewardship
Pillar 4: Systems, Communication, and Accountability.

All students, families, staff, and community partners are welcome. As we work to build bridges to a stronger future, your voice remains the most essential component. I have full confidence that together, we will create a more stable, predictable, and successful future for our students.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Respectfully,

Damon Wright Signature

Updates

Dr. Diane Siri, Dr. Valerie Pitts, and Ms. Julie Haff were engaged as consultants by the Santa Clara Board of Trustees on January 22, 2026, to review more than 50 district plans, as well as Superintendent Damon Wright’s 100-Day findings. Collectively, these documents represent hundreds of goals and thousands of hours of input from staff and the broader community. Superintendent Wright has articulated a vision to synthesize this work into a concise North Star document that clearly communicates priorities, guides district efforts, and focuses staff on the highest-leverage actions to promote learning, accelerate student growth, and ensure systemwide coherence.

On February 13, the consultants met with the Board to present an initial synthesis of the document review, identifying 28 priorities and more than 105 associated actions. The Board engaged in discussion to refine these priorities and provided input on developing clearer, more accessible mission and vision statements, as well as streamlined core values. The district’s 2021 mission, vision, and core values serve as the foundation for this refinement work. Materials from the February 13 special board meeting are available on the agenda for that meeting. While the February 13 draft has been updated, it remains a work in progress.

Throughout February and March, the Superintendent and Executive Cabinet have collaborated with their teams to refine high-leverage actions, define measures of success, and identify key drivers within each priority area. As consultants have engaged with various district partners, their notes have been shared with the appropriate Cabinet members for consideration and integration. On April 7, the district held community engagement sessions to review actions and measures of success across the four focus areas and seek feedback.

The next special board meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2026. A communitywide survey will also be launched during that time as we prepare to finalize our North Star document for board approval at their regular meeting in June.
