LGBTQ Resources

Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is committed to creating safe and welcoming learning environments for each and every student.  To promote spaces of belonging and inclusivity for all students,  SCUSD is dedicated to developing and affirming comprehensive policies, practices, systems and structures that support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQQIA+) needs and interest

In the Fall of 2022 the district launched the LGBTQQIA+ Committee to review and update relevant board policies (BP) and administrative regulations (AR) to protect the interests of LGBTQQIA+ students.  The committee updated BP/AR 5145.3 (linked below), which provide a comprehensive outline of actions and standards for the SCUSD community to support LGBTQQIA+ students.

SCUSD also supports:

  • Staff training on LGBTQQIA+ topics, in partnership with local and national experts and organizations
  • Sponsorship of an LGBTQQIA+ Network that meets several times per year  ((add dates when Leah returns))
  • Support of site LGBTQIA+ Clubs/Genders & Sexualities Alliance Clubs (GSA’s)
  • Use of a Name/Gender Change Form
  • Development of Student Support/Transition Plans
  • Mental Health Services and Referrals

Below are additional resources and tools for students, teachers and families to address LGBTQQIA+ topics and needs.
If you or your family are interested in more information or support please contact Leah Cohen, District Social Worker, at lcohen@scusd.net or 408-325-6497.
