Bullying and Cyberbullying
Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is dedicated to fostering safe, welcoming, and nurturing learning environments for all students. We believe that physically and emotionally secure schools and communities promote academic achievement, responsible citizenship, consistent school attendance, and active engagement.
Staff at SCUSD encourage students' social-emotional development by providing safe and age-appropriate opportunities for resolving conflicts, developing strong decision-making skills, and fostering empathy.
Building positive school climates and cultures, where bullying behaviors are less likely to occur, is a community-wide responsibility. All students and school personnel are directly taught how to behave in safe, respectful, and responsible ways, and resources are available when students need more targeted and intensive support.
SCUSD has policies in place to support the reporting of any bullying behavior. School personnel who witness acts of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or bullying are mandated to take immediate action to intervene (BP & AR 5131.2). The modeling of respectful and civil behavior by adults is also a crucial strategy in maintaining positive school climates.
