Grading For Equity
SCUSD is proud to have a partnership with Joe Feldman, author of Joe Feldman, author of Grading For Equity, What It Is, Why It Matters, and How It Can Transform Schools and Classrooms. During the 2021 - 2022 school year over fifty secondary teachers participate in a year-long cohort to gain knowledge and skills on how to implement grading practices that are accurate, bias-resistant, and motivational.
Students will also participate in focus groups to share their experiences with grading and Joe is facilitating conversations with our Board of Trustees, Labor Management, Cabinet, and parents. Data (shared below) from this professional learning experience is creating positive momentum to change grading practices.
During the 2022 - 2023 school year, many of the teachers who attended in the 2021 - 2022 cohort will continue to deepen their knowledge by participating in a second year of learning. We are also offering another first year cohort to a group of forty new secondary teachers.
