Substitute Teacher Applications

What Does a Substitute Teacher Do?
Under the direction of the school site principal, a substitute teacher plans work assignments, provides instruction, supervision, and training of individuals or groups of students in a school setting. Job activities include instruction of students in a variety of education environments including classrooms, learning centers, and other facilities.

How Do I Apply?
All on-call substitutes teaching in the classroom must either possess a California Teaching Credential (any subject area) or 30-day Substitute Permit. For any long-term substitute teaching assignment, the district requires that applicants are fully credentialed in that subject area.
- Pass the CBEST test and apply online for the Substitute Credential with the Santa Clara County Office of Education, sccoe.org.
- Apply for a position at Santa Clara Unified School District through edjoin.org
- Once you apply we will call you to set up an interview

What’s the Compensation?
- $225 for full-day 3.5 hours or more*
- $130 for half-day 3.5 hours or less**
- $245 for retirees ($130 for half-day)**
- $275 for "long-term assignments" that are 17 consecutive days or longer. The rate is retroactive to the first day of service.
- Extended Long Term Rate is more than 80+ days. 1st step on the Teacher's Salary Schedule.
- $500 Stipend for SCUSD retired teachers if you complete 20 substitute jobs
*Full-day compensation is considered when the assignment is more than 3.5 hours.
**Half-day compensation is considered when the assignment is 3.5 hours or less.
