SCUSD Farm

About Our Farm

Located on the Peterson Middle School campus, the SCUSD Farm has been providing fresh produce and hands-on learning opportunities since August 2017. Each year, the farm produces hundreds of thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables that are served in school cafeterias across the District.

From rainbow carrots and crisp romaine lettuce to tomatoes, blood oranges, and other seasonal crops, the farm grows a diverse selection of produce that supports student nutrition and wellness. Farm-grown ingredients are also incorporated into nutrition education programs, giving students opportunities to explore healthy foods through tastings and interactive activities.

The farm's seasonal Farm Stand allows families, staff, and community members to purchase fresh produce grown at the SCUSD Farm and connect with the District's Farm to School program.

Throughout the school year, students in grades K–12 visit the farm for hands-on learning experiences that bring science, agriculture, and environmental stewardship to life. Guided by the District's Farm Educator and supported by two full-time farmers, students explore topics such as plant life cycles, pollination, composting, soil health, and sustainable farming practices.

The SCUSD Farm serves as both a working farm and an outdoor classroom, connecting students to the food they eat while fostering an appreciation for agriculture, sustainability, and healthy communities.

Farm Stand

Every purchase made at the SCUSD Farm Stand helps create meaningful learning opportunities for students while supporting the growth and sustainability of the District's educational farm.

The Farm Stand is much more than a place to purchase produce; it is a living classroom where students develop valuable job and life skills. Each summer, students participate in the Farm's Paid Work Experience Program, gaining hands-on training in agriculture, customer service, cash handling, teamwork, communication, and workplace professionalism. Students work directly with customers, assist with harvesting and packaging produce, and learn what it takes to operate a successful community farm stand.

The success of the Farm Stand is made possible through the dedication of the SCUSD Farm team. District Farmer Juan spends countless hours preparing fields, nurturing crops, improving farm operations, and helping ensure that fresh, organically grown produce is available for schools and the community. His passion for agriculture and commitment to student learning are evident throughout the farm.

Over the years, the SCUSD Farm has continued to grow as a hub for learning, community engagement, and workforce development by:

• Providing students with real-world paid work experiences and internships
• Expanding opportunities for students to develop vocational and employment skills
• Supporting school programs through agricultural education and hands-on learning experiences
• Hosting field trips and educational visits for students across the District
• Producing fresh, organically grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for the community
• Strengthening partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community members
• Creating meaningful opportunities for students to build confidence, independence, and career readiness

The SCUSD Farm Stand helps support these efforts while connecting the community with fresh, locally grown produce. By shopping at the Farm Stand, community members play an important role in supporting student success, agricultural education, and hands-on learning opportunities throughout Santa Clara Unified School District.

Our Past Events

The SCUSD Farm and Bryan Osborne Nature Center hosted a successful Earth Day celebration on April 25, 2026, welcoming students, families, staff, and community members for a morning of learning and exploration. Visitors enjoyed guided farm tours, hands-on activities, and opportunities to learn about sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and the Farm to Table Camp program.
