Buchser Townsend Field Improvements
With Super Bowl LX coming to Santa Clara in 2026, the NFL Foundation and the 49ers Foundation are investing in local sports fields to expand community access. Buchser's Townsend Field was chosen as a project site. The Santa Clara Unified School District will also contribute funding to ensure a comprehensive project for the Buchser community.
On October 23, 2025, the Board approved the Townsend Field Improvement Project, and on November 13, 2025, the Board approved the contract with Lionakis to begin design of the project.
The project will include:

Replacement of the existing field and track with an enlarged natural-turf field area and a larger synthetic track

Replacement of all bleacher grandstands with new aluminum bleachers

Demolition of the existing concession buildings

Replacement of all stadium lighting

Construction of a new restroom building
