Accountability
California Schools Dashboard
State and Federal Accountability
The Data, Assessment and Accountability department is responsible for tracking and reporting on how SCUSD meets or exceeds the requirements of state and federal mandates. The department provides additional focus on important student groups including English Learners, economically disadvantaged students and historically underserved students.
CA Dashboard
The dashboards include the following 11 indicators measuring a district or school’s performance based on the current rate and level of improvement over at least one year:
- Chronic absenteeism
- Suspension rates
- Graduation rates
- Student performance in English language arts and math
- Parent engagement
- School climate
- Progress of English learners
- College and career readiness
- Implementation of state standards
- Basics, such as teachers, materials, and facilities
For all of these measures, we can see overall student performance as well as results for particular groups of students. The dashboard uses colored “pies” to indicate the performance level - blue is best, followed by green, yellow, orange, and red - making it easy for staff, families, and community members to identify successes and challenges of a school/district. This layered look at student success performance helps all of us work together to continue improving.
In March 2020, the U.S. Department of Education approved California's request to waive statewide accountability and reporting requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. In June 2020, Governor Newsom approved Senate Bill (SB) 98, which prohibits the California Department of Education (CDE) from publishing state and local indicators in the 2020 Dashboard. Therefore, the 2020 Dashboard will report only:
- Local educational agency (LEA) and school details (e.g. LEA/school address)
- Student population data (e.g. enrollment data)
- A link to DataQuest or CDE web page that reports the 2019-2020 data collected in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) (e.g. graduation rate)
- Equitable services to Private Schools
