Physical Education Requirement

Every student is required to take physical education unless legally exempt under Education Code 51241 or 51246. When there is a legitimate reason for a student to be excused from physical education for three days or less, the parent should send a note with the student to the health office. Anytime an excuse exceeds three days, a form must be completed and signed by a physician, and shared with health office and the relevant teacher. The doctor should complete and sign the form, and specify what the child is allowed/able to do in her/his physical education class. [EC 51222]
