CCGI Opt-Out

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their student out of the school district’s sharing of student information with the California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI), which manages CaliforniaColleges.edu, by completing the district’s CCGI/CaliforniaColleges.edu opt-out form and returning it to the school. California law requires districts to notify families that student information may be shared with CCGI to provide college and career planning tools. If a family opts out, the student will lose access to transcript-informed features of CaliforniaColleges.edu, including tools that use courses, grades, and GPA to monitor progress toward UC/CSU “a-g” eligibility and certain integrations that can make the college application process easier, such as transferring verified transcript information into applications. The student may still be able to use the general college and career exploration lessons and resources that do not require transcript information. Opting out is a choice about data sharing and access to these enhanced tools; it does not affect a student’s ability to graduate or apply to college, although the student and family may need to complete some college-planning and transcript-verification steps through alternative processes.
