Bracher Elementary Modernization
Project Updates as of April 2026:
The Work is divided into phases beginning with site work summer 2025. Work will extend into the 2025-26 school year. All projects phases will be completed by the end of 2026:
- New parking lots with drop-off and pickup lanes.
- Four preschool and TK classrooms and support spaces designed for program flexibility.
- New preschool/TK playground with shade.
- New multipurpose building with full kitchen, indoor/outdoor stage and access to a fabric shade structure over a lunch court.
- The multipurpose building slab is poured.
- Attempts to secure clean soil for the turf field have not yet been successful. Imported material must be tested and accepted as clean by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). The quarry that supplied soil for the Agnews Campus is now closed. DTSC is assisting in locating a suitable source.
- A promising source of clean material has been located. Testing is underway.
- The building occupancy dates have changed from August to December.
- The geotextile barrier (the black material covering the field in the photo below) is being installed over native soil in the new turf areas. DTSC has required this material under all landscaped areas on the entire campus.
- Structural steel erection will begin in the next two weeks.
- Most campus trees must be removed because of the required contaminated soil excavation and removal. A plan showing the trees to be retained and removed is on the District website at https://www.santaclarausd.org/about-us/departments/bond-projects/bracher-elementary-modernization. The landscaping plans provide many more new trees than those being removed.
