Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Committee
The purpose of the Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Committee (ELSC) is to educate, transform and inspire Santa Clara Unified Schools through environmental leadership.
Role of Committee
- Implement the goals of the Board's Climate Change and Sustainability Resolution
- Implement the goals of the the Board's Water Conservation Resolution
- Develop an Environmental and Climate Action Plan that supports implementation across the SCUSD's school campuses, curriculum, and community and culture efforts
- Create garden standards
- Create an online Sustainability Dashboard to track electrical, gas, and water usage at each campus
- Provide access to a solar panel production tracking website for the District
- Complete a baseline assessment for campus facilities and operations for sustainable practices
- Create student led "green teams" at each campus
- Plan and organize Earth Day events

Overview
Currently the committee is working on creating garden standards, student club and project activation and creating additional environmental curriculum.
In previous years, the Committee created a draft Environmental and Climate Action Plan and a Sustainability Dashboard that tracks energy and water usage per site. The Dashboard is linked to the Sustainability Webpage.
Membership Responsibilities
