Career Technical Education

  • What is Career Technical Education (CTE)?

Career Technical Education (CTE) involves a multiyear sequence of courses that integrates core academic education with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

Over the past 10 years, the face of CTE classes has changed. Tried and true automotive, culinary and fashion programs are still popular, but now CTE includes cutting-edge programs such as biotechnology, computer graphic design, building trades and construction.

Courses are designed to train students for new and emerging careers to fill 21st Century jobs through hands-on project-based learning. Courses are evaluated each year for alignment with the needs of industry. New classes are developed accordingly. Classes are engaging, exciting and for some students are the "key" that sparks interest in college and careers.

    CTE provides students:

    • Academic subject matter taught with relevance, rigor and real-world application.
    • Employability skills.
    • Career-related project-based learning.

    CTE Classes

Over the past 10 years, the face of CTE classes has changed. Tried and true automotive, culinary and fashion programs are still popular, but now CTE includes cutting-edge programs such as biotechnology, computer graphic design, and much more. Courses are designed to train students for new and emerging careers to fill 21st-century jobs through hands-on, project-based learning. They are evaluated each year for alignment with the needs of industry. New classes are being developed, so please check with your counselor. Classes are engaging, exciting and often the “key” that sparks many students’ interest for the first time. When kids connect, they learn, and that keeps kids in school. CTE reduces the dropout rate and closes the achievement gap.
