Work Permits

  • Steps to Obtain a Work Permit

    Please follow the guidelines below to obtain a work permit from SCUSD:

    1. Prospective employer provides student with an "Intent to Employ" form
    2. Student and family complete all of the required fields, including signature 
    3. Student or family member delivers "Intent to Employ" form to appropriate location (see below)
    4. SCUSD contacts family when the form is ready for collection

    Important Information

    • Anyone over 17 who has already graduated does not need a work permit
    • All signatures must be original signatures — no copies or faxes can be accepted
    • The turnaround time for most work permits is 48 - 72 hours minimum

    Locations

    Santa Clara High School

    Anthony Butler, career center tech, will be processing work permits on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Any other day, students can drop off the completed (signed) "Intent to Employ" form and the office staff will place it in Anthony's mailbox to process when he is in his office.

    Emi Botello, attendance clerk, will accept all completed (signed) "Intent to Employ" forms in her office Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Wilson High School, New Valley High School, and Community Day School

    Laura Fitsemons, student services staff secretary, will be collecting completed (signed) "Intent to Employ" forms at the Educational Options Campus, room L3, 1840 Benton Street, Santa Clara, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

    Private Schools

    Students residing within SCUSD boundaries will need to present a completed (signed) "Intent to Employ" form, proof of enrollment in school, transcript, and photo ID. The form and other documents can be delivered to Laura Fitsemons, at the Educational Options Campus, room L3, 1840 Benton Street, Santa Clara, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
