Timeline

  •  The timeline is flexible based on Board direction. Note: blue italicized text indicates Board participation.

    • Pre-work: January 14, District receives proposals
    • Pre-work: January 29, Proposal presentations; Board selects firm
    • Phase 1: February 26, Board meets with consultants and determines characteristics, skills, and qualities desired in a new superintendent; Board publicly announces timeline and procedures for superintendent selection
    • Phase 2: February 28, Consultants meet with staff and community designated by Board to receive input; Online survey is posted to district website Feb 28-Mar 7
    • Phase 3: Late February and Early March, Consultants identify potential candidates; Development and posting of recruitment materials and Position Description
    • Phase 4: March 11 and March 18, Advertising and active recruitment; Ad appears in EdCal (two consecutive publications)
    • Phase 5: 
      • March 27, 5 p.m., Deadline for applications
      • Early March through Mid-April, Consultants complete comprehensive reference and background checks on applicants
      • April 22, Board meets with consultants, reviews all applications and selects finalists to be interviewed
    • Phase 6: May 2, Board interviews finalists
    • Phase 7: Week of May 6, Board completes validation visit of leading candidate’s community and makes final determination on selected candidate
    • Phase 8: May 23, Board approves superintendent contract at a regularly scheduled board meeting
    • Phase 9: July 1 (or as mutually agreed), New superintendent begins
