Multiple programs designed to improve the educational opportunities for our students have already been implemented and are flourishing. Several elementary schools have introduced the Comprehensive Intervention Model (CIM) which includes Reading Recovery as an intervention strategy to improve early literacy. Other programs being implemented include Reading and Writing Workshop and Sobrato Early Academic Language. SCUSD elementary programs also include two transitional bilingual schools, a STEAM school, a parent participation school, 2 computer science immersion schools and a Basics+ school. Career and technical education pathways are offered at both of our comprehensive high schools as part of our commitment to increase school-to-work training opportunities. We also have the STEM Leadership Institute which is a program spanning grades 7-12 at Cabrillo and Santa Clara High.

Santa Clara's Special Education Program serves students from pre-K to age 22 and provides full inclusion models at most sites. English language learners are placed in classes with Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) certified teachers.

There are many other specialized teaching opportunities in our district including academic support, AVID, advanced placement and honors classes.
