Welcome to Santa Clara Unified School District. Please use the links on the left of this page to navigate through the registration process for our District.
Student registration for the 2019-2020 school year opened on January 9, 2019. Please register your child at your school of residence. If you do not know your school of residence, please refer to the District's School Finder. Contact information for your school of residence can be found through the school's webpage. Students enrolling at any grade in the district will need to provide specific documents in order to register. Please visit the registration forms and process webpage to access the required forms and find out more about the registration process.
Kindergarten Registration for the coming school year begins on January 9, 2019, at elementary schools throughout the District. Kindergarten registration is ongoing for new students entering the District any time after the initial enrollment period. Please register your child at your school of residence. If you do not know your school of residence, please refer to the District's School Finder. Contact information for your school of residence can be found through the school's webpage. If your child is currently enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten (TK), you must still register for Kindergarten (read the TK section below for more information).
The potential for new kindergarten enrollment in some of the District’s elementary schools may exceed the school’s capacity so parents are encouraged to register their incoming kindergarten student as early as possible. Students are placed based on their registration date. Questions regarding Kindergarten enrollment may be directed to your school of residence at the time of registration.
For more information about required forms and the registration process, please visit our registration forms and process webpage.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year begins on January 9, 2019. Parents of students who turn 5 years old between September 2 and December 2, 2019, may choose to register for TK. Currently, our TK students attend school daily on a modified schedule at one of six District locations. Registration in the TK program is optional. Open Enrollment does not apply to Transitional Kindergarten students, as the SCUSD Open Enrollment policy applies to K-12 students only.
Current Transitional Kindergarten Students
We hope you and your child have found this transitional experience in school to be a positive one. Your child has been given the opportunity to learn important social, emotional and academic skills in a hands-on way this year and he or she is now ready to enroll in our regular kindergarten program.
Current TK students must be re-registered at their school of residence for kindergarten enrollment. Your current enrollment in our TK program does not provide you with priority registration. Please do not miss the opportunity to enroll your child in kindergarten which begins on January 9, 2019. Remember, all completed kindergarten registration packets are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Transition to Middle School
Families of fifth-grade students will be mailed a middle school transition letter. All incoming middle school students will receive a letter in the Spring of 2019, from the school of residence, confirming your student’s placement and informing you of a time period in the summer when you will need to personally come to the middle school and provide continued proof of residency and register your student for Fall placement.
Santa Clara Unified continues to offer Open Enrollment, as space allows, at each of the District’s middle schools. Parents may request enrollment of their student at any District school which may have space available for additional students. Open Enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year begins on January 9, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. and ends on February 6, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. Students requesting to attend a middle school other than their school of residence must submit a new application for middle school placement through the Open Enrollment process. You can learn more about our excellent middle school campuses by reviewing our middle schools brochure.
The Santa Clara Unified Board of Trustees has established a policy of limited Open Enrollment. Although some of our schools are already at capacity, this policy allows parents who reside within the boundaries of the district to request enrollment of their children at "any District school which may have space available for additional students." Admittance to the school of your choice under the Open Enrollment process is done by an annual random lottery system and is based on availability.
Visit the open enrollment webpage to find out more about the process.
