URGENT - Swine Flu Information #2
May 1, 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Santa Clara Unified School District staff continues to monitor the unfolding swine flu situation locally and throughout the country and following all protocols that the Department of Public Health issues. We are continuing to be informed regularly from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department on current and potential changes that could affect students in SCUSD. One such potential change is that your child’s school could be directed to close until the Dept. of Public Health decides that re-opening the school is a safe option. No such directive has been given at this time. However, we are encouraging all families to take the following measures to plan for the possibility of a school closure.

•Develop a support system among friends and families to attend to household needs and childcare coverage
•Implement precautions to prevent the spread of the flu, if someone you know should become affected (e.g. reduce social contact with others, including hand shaking, face-to-face meetings, frequent trips to shopping areas, etc.)
•Establish a communication system among friends and family members
•Implement good hygiene (coughing into sleeves, washing hands regularly, etc).
•Identify good sources of information to keep you and your family aware of the flu status in the county of Santa Clara and the activities of the school district.
